Hogwarts Express Home Date

Getting a babysitter is hard. It is pricey. And difficult to coordinate. And you have to find someone you can trust with your baby.  And one that your baby is comfortable with.
pricey+coordination+trust+comfortable = home date

We have a lot of home dates. ;)
You could say we're just at home so it doesn't count as a date, but the more official we make it with a real plan, the more it feels like a little escape for the two of us. We try to put down Deborah early and then spring for a date.

A few weeks ago Derek was in charge of our date, and after Deborah went to sleep told me we were going to have a Harry Potter date. He made some tasty sandwiches and asked me to whip up a train car. I only had a few minutes, but it was pretty fun on such short notice. I threw on a bit of a school outfit - Gryffindor. And grabbed Derek a Hufflepuff tie - he loves Hufflepuff. Thinks they're underappreciated. :)

We recreated Ron bringing his sandwiches on the train, and they were looking great until...
He had gotten some Bertie Botts Every Flavor Beans, Licorice Wands, and Snitches (ferrero rocher). We took the lot! ;) Harry lent us a galleon or two.

We ate and had a lot of fun speaking in our British accents, then went to town on the sweets while we watched Harry Potter & the Sorcerer's Stone. :) It was awesome, and so easy!
And of course, the date's not complete without a little ...er
haha. ;) AND we still have HP candy left, so I think this could be a bit of a tradition. :) There ARE 6 more books, and 7 more movies. Giving home dates a theme is a great way for them to feel like an actual date, rather than just your average night at home. And it only took a few minutes to put together!
Oh, and if you can't find the platform, just look for the family with red hair. They're a pretty helpful lot. :)

You have such fun and creative dates! Great job with the impromptu train car and costume- I love it! We might have to try this seeing as we do a lot of home dates ourselves.

btw- where do you get Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans???
